These are a few of my favorite things…

When starting a new adventure, I’ve found it extremely beneficial to have a heart to heart with myself about all of my very favorite parts of myself. Basically, my life will change so much and I know that, what do I want to keep? There are some universal truths of our character, many additions we find along the way, and of course some negatives we must make effort to shake.

Here, I’d like to write down and immortalize some of the things and identities that I have loved so much over the course of my 20 years so far, facets I intend to keep in my heart, no matter where its wayward beat takes me.

When the dog bites, when the bee stings…

  1. The color red. A beautiful dark pomegranate red. My father has always (allbeit, a far brighter shade) loved red and so I feel as though it is hereditary. My beautiful first car was a similar shade, as are my favorite glasses. For me, my favorite color is a guiding light that tells me that I can make choices in life to follow whatever path I wish to. I can choose items of my favorite color, but I don’t always have to. Either way, it will always be there for me.
  2. Seeing animals. As far as I know, they don’t know the difference between someone born in a particular country and someone that is not. As far as I know that they know, I am home. I find a sense of belonging whenever I see animals, no matter what kind or where they are. They (usually) have such kind eyes and just want to go about their days in the way nature calls them to. I am no different to them than the next human that walks by. I find a lot of peace in that. I love you random squirrel.
  3. Stretching. Oh how I love the things I can control. Stretching even for 10 minutes a day, I can see progress! My nightly routine makes it so even on my least productive days, I’m still moving forward. What a gift that is! One of my greatest life mottos is “set yourself up today for an even better tomorrow”.
  4. Forget-me-knot flowers. Not only are they beautiful, they grew in the backyard of my first ever childhood home in Edmounds, WA. They connect me to the most innocent and carefree years of my childhood, ones I shouldn’t forget to draw inspiration from. I loved to play pretend in that backyard, like I could discover the enterence to a fairy kingdom. Now I know that in the grand scheme of things, it was my fairy kingdom. The world can be that for me now, but I will forget knot where I started (get it?).
